I have a few questions about my antique floor lamp I bought today?

I paid $17 for it at an antique store today and would like to know if I got a good deal on it. It works great, and the lady working there said it was from the 1930′s or 1940′s. If anyone is knowledgable about that kind of stuff I would also like an opinion about how old you think it is too.

Plus it needs some cleaning, and I would also like to know the best way to do that without hurting the paint. I don’t mind a few rust spots, I think it adds character!

It originally came with a globe for the middle piece, but this one didn’t have one. Here are a few pics of the lamp.

What do you think about the price? How good of a deal was it?
I don’t know why my computer posted the first details twice…sorry about that!
I just looked under the bottom of it to find who manufactured it, and it said Sandal on one side, the number 203 on the other, and a capital C with a square around it on another side of it.

What does that mean? I can’t find any info about it on the internet anywhere.
I found a glass globe in our office that fit it perfectly, it looks like it should have came with it!
